The American Golden Laced Wyandottes

While the golden laced variety of Wyandottes is one of the most widely known varieties of poultry in the U.S., it is shockingly one of the varieties that need most work. There is so few decent quality golden laced available. We’ve seen so called golden laced birds on display at shows that do not even come close to being a Wyandotte. It seemed to us that the once proud variety of Wyandotte was now relegated to hatchery birds that just do not measure up to the standard. We got to work creating a line of golden laced that we are proud of as well as being recognizable as golden laced Wyandottes. Along with poor combs, type and lacing, one of the biggest let downs of most available golden laced was the color. It seems that a brassy to a yellowish color had replaced the rich golden bay that the standard calls for. Our line of golden laced is exclusive to Paul’s poultry as they where created here on our farm though a blue laced red and a white Wyandotte cross. The few that have seen our golden laced line rave about their beauty. Our golden laced Wyandottes are as large as our white and silver laced lines and we see huge improvements in them every year. Although our line of golden laced still has much room for improvement, we're sure that in the show ring these birds will be tough to beat in the "best of variety" category. Our long term goal is to have our golden laced Wyandotte line to win best of breed at an A.P.A. national event. We are excited to offer our golden laced line in limited numbers starting in spring 2010.
